Narconon
Los Angeles now known as Narconon Southern California was the
first Narconon to open its doors in 1971. In continuous operation since 1971,
it is one of the oldest drug rehabilitation centers in the Southern California
area. It started as a small center with only a handful of dedicated staff members
with one purpose in mind, to help individuals recover from drug addiction. Narconon staff
know with certainty, that most drug addicts are basically good people. It
is the crippling manifestation of drug addiction that change the character
and decay the ethics and morals of people who are addicted to drugs.
These few dedicated staff knew without a doubt that recovery was possible as they
themselves had recovered from drug addiction. Since that time Narconon has grown
into a worldwide international network. Narconon drug rehabilitation centers and drug education
services are among the largest and most effective in its field. Today Narconon
has delivered drug education to well over a million children, in an effort to
prevent our future generations from using drugs.
The
Narconon program is neither a psychiatric nor medical program. It is
a social education model of rehabilitation. The treatment steps are entirely drug-free;
that is, the Narconon program does not use drugs or medications to solve the problems
caused by drugs, but does use nutrition and nutritional supplements as an important
component of its treatment. The Narconon program handles all types of drug addictions:
heroin, cocaine, crack, meth, marijuana, ecstasy, prescription drugs and alcohol. It is
not a 12-step program; we believe that an individual is not powerless, and, in
fact, must take responsibility for his or her own actions.
Narconon
staff prepare graduating students with "re-entry" programs to follow
as they start a new drug free life. But the full Narconon program is intended
to produce graduates who can stand on their own feet and live drug-free, ethical
lives thereafter. A Narconon graduate does not go to weekly meetings for months
after completion, nor does he describe himself as "recovering."
The
Narconon Program has one of the highest success rates in the field of drug rehabilitation,
with outside studies showing 76% of the graduates going on to lead stable, ethical,
productive drug-free lives.
For
over three decades Narconon Southern California has salvaged thousands of lives
from the grips of drug addiction, and has replaced tears with smiles and laughter
to the innocent victims of drug addiction: mothers, fathers, sons,
